Visit the insect collections at the Natural History Museum of Denmark (SNM)

The collections hall

The Zoological Museum, University of Copenhagen (Zoological branch of the SNM) is situated approximately 15 minutes walk from the IUSSI2010 conference venue. Among other things, it houses approximately 8 million insect specimens, including more than 10000 primary types. The jewel in the crown is the Fabricius collection, containing much of the material described by the late 18th century Danish entomologist J.C. Fabricius. This includes numerous ant types, many of which are in surprisingly good condition. You can access a species inventory of the holdings of the Hymenoptera section at http://www.zmuc.dk/EntoWeb/collections-databaser/Hymenoptera/Hymenoptera.htm.

We welcome visitors among the IUSSI2010 delegates to the SNM entomological collections. Should you desire to visit, please contact Lars Vilhelmsen (lbvilhelmsen@snm.ku.dk). Visits can be arranged at anytime during the conference, but we recommend you make an appointment before the start of the conference, especially if you need access to a microscope or other equipment. A good time to visit the collections might be in the afternoon of Wednesday August 11th, if you do not plan to attend any of the excursions scheduled then.

Looking forward to see you in Copenhagen
